Saint Mariana of Jesus, canonized in 1.950 as the first Ecuadorian saint, left behind a legacy of sacrifice and devotion that transcends time. Her life continues to inspire thousands of people who, since 2.017, have followed the Route of Saint Mariana of Jesus—a journey that combines nature, history, art, and spirituality, attracting over 40,000 visitors annually.
In Cayambe, her childhood unfolded amid the serenity of nature and a profound spiritual connection. At the Hacienda Granobles, owned by her maternal family, Mariana began her path of faith, influenced by Jesuit priests from the nearby Hacienda La Compañía de Jesús. Despite losing her parents at a young age, her character was strengthened, becoming a symbol of purity and hope, represented by the white lily on Cayambe’s coat of arms.
Mariana’s legacy was defined by her selflessness during the epidemics and earthquakes of 1.645 an act of love and sacrifice that solidified her as a model of altruism. This spirit lives on in the Route of Saint Mariana of Jesus, offering an invitation to reflect, explore, and connect with Ecuador’s deep spiritual and cultural roots.
